UNIC Faculty from the School of Business participating in the FAB Erasmus+ Meeting and Workshop in the Philippines
The University of Nicosia School of Business Faculty members Prof. Ioanna Papasolomou and Prof. Alkis Thrassou, participated in the second FAB Erasmus+ Project Management Meeting and Capacity Building Training Workshop of Asian HEI Staff which took place in Manila, the Philippines, from June 27 to July 1st.
The FAB project is an Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity Building project, in the field of Higher Education that aims to develop an MSc programme in Family Business Management to address the unique challenges that family businesses in Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal face, and hamper their growth and development. The project is coordinated by the National University of Management in Cambodia. The new master’s degree in Family Business Management will be supported by a VET professional training course, six centers of excellence promoting cooperation, innovation and career development in each of the six Asian countries, and a VLE consisting of an Academic Space, a Virtual Library and Massive Online Open Courses.
A learning outcomes approach will reflect the context, scope and content of the programme and will be linked with appropriate learning activities, assessment methods and assessment criteria. The FAB MSc programme will apply know-how, best practices, and processes from European HEIs, thus filling the academic gap and addressing the regions business needs and demand for specialised personnel.
The event was hosted by Ateneo de Manila University and gathered partners from all the participating countries: the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan, as well as trainers from various European partners: the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), the University of the Aegean (Greece), the University of Aveiro (Portugal), ReadLab (Greece), the Centre of Social Innovation (Cyprus) and the Metropolitan College (Greece). The University of Nicosia was represented by two of the project’s research partners, Professor Ioanna Papasolomou and Professor Alkis Thrassou, from the School of Business of the University of Nicosia.
The Project Management Meeting focused on addressing key issues such as the accreditation process of the Master’s Programme in Family Business Management, the planning of the Info Days regarding the programme in each of the participating Asian countries, the dissemination process and discussion of the course syllabi and other curriculum related issues.
The Workshop aimed at reinforcing the capacity of HEI staff of the Asian Partner Countries, participating in the FAB project and focused on two axes: the delivery of the FAB curriculum, and the operation of the Family Business Centre for Excellence. It brought together more than 60 participants from the above-mentioned Asian partner countries and European partners. During the workshop, the participants had the chance to receive training and review the relevant curriculum content and material. The training workshop introduced new innovative teaching methods and concepts on teaching courses of Family Business to the Asian partners so as to enable a better understanding and capacity on how to teach the FAB Master Programme courses.
