Profile of the Programme

The Program develops the skills, abilities and knowledge necessary for improving public governance and enhancing leadership in the public sector. It prepares students to deal with real-world problems and challenges and make the best out of emerging opportunities in public services organizations. Graduates shall be able to work as executives, managers and/or policy analysts in whole spectrum of public services organizations (i.e. national government, local government, non-governmental organizations, and the nonprofit sector).
The program blends together the best theories and practices, as well as it encourages original contribution and specialization. It maintains an interdisciplinary approach to public administration and public management. Modules include public policy making, management and implementation. Focus is also placed on systematic research on case studies in Europe, the US and the rest of the world.

Admission Criteria

The minimum general requirement for admission to the post-graduate degree programme is a Bachelor Degree from a recognised university.

Αpplicants must also satisfy the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in the administrative sciences, economics, political science, law or any other relevant degree (relevance will be assessed accordingly).
  • Good knowledge of English language*
  • Τwo recommendation letters.
  • A letter by the prospective student expressing his/her interest in following the program, including his/her CV.

*English Language Proficiency

Students satisfy the English requirements if their first degree was taught in English. Otherwise, they would need to present a minimum TOEFL score 550 and above, or Computer-based TOEFL score of 213 and above, or Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score 79-80 and above, or GCSE (or GCE) English Language “O” Level of “C” or above or IELTS of 6.5 and above or Cambridge Exams (First Certificate with Grade B and above, as well as Proficiency with Grade C and above or a score placement at the ENGL-100 level of the University English Placement Test. The University offers English courses at various levels to help students reach the required standard for admission to a graduate program.

Course assessment usually comprises of a comprehensive final exam and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment can include amongst others, mid-terms, projects and class participation.

Letter grades are calculated based on the weight of the final exam and the continuous assessment and the actual numerical marks obtained in these two assessment components. Based on the course grades the student’s semester grade point average (GPA) and cumulative point average (CPA) are calculated.

The student must complete 90 ECTS and all programme requirements.

A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.

Upon successful completion of this program, the students should be able to:

  1. Develop a rich theoretical background in relation to public administration, public management and public governance
  2. Use knowledge in order to understand the complexity of public policy development, management and implementation.
  3. Analyze and evaluate real problems and propose options and solutions
  4. Identify priority issues and manage planning and executive tasks to address them.
  5. Build analytical and communication skills in the working environment.
  6. Acquire managerial skills according to the structure, function and requirements of a public sector organization.
  7. Have applied knowledge of contemporary practices and sophisticated methods and models in public governance.
  8. Develop critical and analytical thinking by promoting innovation and leadership in public services organizations.
