THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF THE NEXT EUROZONE CRISIS

The Eurozone crisis constitutes the most serious challenge facing the EU since its creation.  Most technocrats, diplomats, academics as well as politicians were aware of the problematic foundations of Eurozone but they could not foresee the depth and the extent of the problems and the current crisis.  It should be no surprise that in addition to Greece, throughout Europe, the conventional economic philosophy of austerity is seriously challenged.  It is essential to address the serious shortcomings effectively and moreover to move to a new paradigm.  In the absence of such an approach the problems will be exacerbated.
