Dr George Aphamis

Dr Aphamis is an Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology, in the Sports Science Programme. Following his studies in Sports Science at the University of Athens Greece (1997), he studied Exercise Physiology at the graduate level, at McGill University, Montreal, Canada (2000). As an exercise physiologist, he worked with many athletes of international and Olympic level on strength and conditioning and training optimization. He then pursued doctoral studies at Loughborough University, Loughborough, UK, graduating with a PhD in Exercise Physiology (2011).
Dr Aphamis has been a lecturer at the University of Nicosia since 2011, teaching Biochemistry of Exercise, Advanced Coaching and Athletics at the undergraduate level. Dr Aphamis has also developed and delivered a number of graduate courses such as Exercise Physiology – Fitness Assessment, Applied Exercise Physiology for Sports Performance, in the MSc Sports Science programme, and Ergogenic Practices and Nutritional Manipulation in the MSc Sports Nutrition Programme.
Research-wise, Dr Aphamis is involved in a number of projects on hydration and overall health, hydration and sports performance, and High-Intensity Interval Training. Students of all levels (undergraduate, graduate and PhD candidates) have been engaged in the various research projects, producing dissertations that are presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
