Joining forces for Healthier Population during COVID-19 pandemic
From 11 to 15 May 2020 the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and the University of Nicosia Medical School are celebrating European Public Health Week. The Medical School would like to share with you the following FREE virtual activities that demonstrate how members of varied sectors of the community are joining forces for healthier populations during this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We hope these activities can help you in your efforts towards a healthful lifestyle.
Monday, May 11 “Promoting Health through the Global Goals“
- 8:30pm-10pm: “Antenatal Care: a Guide for Parents” – A free online seminar for pregnant couples with Birth Forward (1st of 6 sessions) to explain antenatal care and show participants how to access free helpful material from BabyBuddy.com.cy.
Register here. - Social Media: “Healthy Cooking during COVID-19: Social Media Video Campaign” – A summary of five 1-minute videos of nutritious recipes by Alaa Diab, Medical School F Year MBBS student, posted on UNIC Medical School Social Media: Feta & Beetroot Salad, Spiced Up Chai Latte, Berries & Yogurt, Oats-Bananas-Dates, and Lentils & Bulgur with Cucumber & Yogurt.
Tuesday, May 12 “Primary Care in the Digital Age“
- 5pm-6pm: “Tools to Succeed in Quitting Smoking“- A live virtual group discussion for those thinking about quitting smoking with Dr Nuno Ferreira and Dr Maria Cecilia Mosquera. Organized by the UNIC Primary Care Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences.

Wednesday, May 13 “Staying Together for Mental Health“
- 5pm-6pm: “Yoga and Meditation to Help with Sleep and Stress” – A live virtual class thanks to Mr Gaurav Vohra, yoga guru and teacher of Indian culture of the High Commission of India in Nicosia. Register here for Webex details.

Thursday, May 14 “Equal Health for All“
- Online: “Breastfeeding Support during COVID-19 Pandemic” – A pre-recorded breastfeeding support session (held in Greek originally on 9 May 2020) will be posted and made accessible to all via an online platform for parents: “Baby Buddy Forward.” Find the recording here on 14 May 2020.
Friday, May 15 “Grow old, grow healthy“
- 11am-12pm: “Pilates for Seniors: Stay Strong and Balanced” – A live virtual class thanks to A-Z PHYSIO HEALTH Physiotherapy & Clinical Pilates.
