Dr Evi Eftychiou
Dr Evi Eftychiou is a Lecturer at the Department of Law, University of Nicosia (Cyprus), where she teaches courses of Legal Anthropology, Sociology of Law, Cultural Anthropology, Principles of Sociology, European Cultures and Principles and Methods of Qualitative Research. She holds a BA in Sociology (Minor degree in Political Science) from the University of Cyprus and an MSc in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Dr Eftychiou obtained her PhD from the University of Hull in the UK and her thesis is entitled “Power and Tourism: Negotiating Identity in Rural Cyprus”. The ethnographic research explored the relationship between identity politics and tourism in the Troodos mountainous region and the conflict between native elites and locals over the definition of modernity.
In the last 12 years, Dr Eftychiou coordinated or worked as a researcher in over 35 funded projects from the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, the Research Promotion Foundation and other domestic sources with the total contribution to the host organizations exceeding €1.500.000. In most of these projects, she was either the coordinator or the principal investigator, acquiring thus significant drafting, research and administrative experience in different kinds of grants.
Dr Eftychiou served as the Head of the Erasmus office at UNIC, which gave her the opportunity to acquire experience in managing, coaching, coordinating, motivating and working together with 6 staff members at the Erasmus office.
