“The Living Chiofta”, a new book by Mike Hajimichael, will be launched at University of Nicosia on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, 19:00 at the Discovery Hall.
The relationship between stories and songs is explored in an exciting new book by academic, writer, singer and radio DJ, Mike Hajimichael, aka Haji Mike. The author has been telling stories through songs with his unique artistic approach for over forty years.
The book includes thirty chapters, thirty songs, and many memories brought together by Mike in his own eclectic style. Many of the songs are well known, some were discovered throughout his career, and others he wrote himself.
The book follows a chronological order, starting with ‘Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) by the late Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, and ending with ‘Wise Men’, a new song by the author about the ways of the world. There are several of obscure gems in between, like ‘Waikiki Welcome’ by The Waikikis and a charming release called ‘Tzatziki’ by the late Teddy Kakanda Harrison from Kenya. The theme of the song, one of the most everyday Greek food side dishes, is like music itself, crucial.
The book launch will feature remarks from Professor Klimis Mastoridis, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Nicos Trimikliniotis from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Alumni graduate Adonis Michael, as well as live performance by the author Mike Hajimichael.
After the event, a reception will follow at The Block Restaurant.
