Dr Dara Milovanovic
Dara Milovanovic is an Associate Professor of Dance and Head of the Department of Music and Dance at University of Nicosia. Dara teaches contextual dance studies, dance research, contemporary dance technique and jazz dance. Dara holds a PhD in Dance Studies from Kingston University London, UK. She completed an MA in American Dance Studies from Florida State University and a BSc in History and Political Science with a minor in dance from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Dara has performed with some of the following choreographers: Natasa Georgiou, Emily Papaloizou, Chloi Melidou, Milena Ugren Koulas, and Alexander Michael, consequently performing in Germany, Spain, Greece, Canada, and Turkey. Dara consistently choreographs for the student dance company at University of Nicosia and the jazz ensemble. Dara has presented at a number of conferences such as IFTR Congress (Serbia), Dance Studies Association (Malta), TaPRA Popular Performance Working Group (UK), PCA/ACA National Conference (USA), PoP Moves (UK), SDHS/CORD (Greece). She is the author of ‘Cabaret: A Study in Choreography of Fascism, Sexuality, and Politics’ in Perspectives on American Dance. The Twentieth Century edited by Jen Atkins, Sally Sommer, and Tricia Young, the Bob Fosse entry for the Routledge Encyclopaedia of Modernism, ‘Fosse/Verdon: Gwen Runs the Show! in the Peephole Journal, and the upcoming “Popular dance as archive: Re-imagining Keeps the Fosse Aesthetic Preserved” in Dance Research and “Michelle Dorrance.” in Fifty Contemporary Choreographers.
