On Saturday, 21 October 2023, the Mobile Clinic visited Ormideia village, located in the Larnaca District. Fourteen medical student volunteers put their clinical skills into practice and provided Blood Pressure, Glucose and Body Mass Index measurements to the residents of Ormideia and the neighbouring communities. The expedition took place at the newly established UNIC Medical Centre in Ormideia and was supervised by Dr Soteris Demosthenous, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Medical School and a Personal Doctor at the Ormideia Centre.
‘As medical students, it is our honour to demonstrate proficiency in our skills, communicate effectively with our patients, and be empathetic towards their challenges. The experience of being part of the Mobile Clinic has enabled me to cultivate these necessary traits not only as a medical student, but as a healthcare advocate. I hope to continue the great work that the Mobile Clinic does, and broaden my horizons through various other public health initiatives’
Michaela Takos, Australia

As the student leader for this expedition, Michaela conducted a refresher training session on Friday, 20 October, providing all participants the opportunity to practice their skills before the expedition.
