Dr Costas Stratilatis
Dr Konstantinos (Costas) Stratilatis is Associate Professor of Public Law in the Department of Law of the University of Nicosia. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Department of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Law Degree, 1997 / Postgraduate Diploma of Specialization in Public Law & Political Sciences, 2000). He obtained his PhD from the same Department in 2006 (grade: 10/10 by unanimous decision of the Examination Committee). His PhD thesis concerned the constitutional right to public communication through audiovisual media. For his doctoral studies he was awarded a scholarship by the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). In the capacity of an IKY scholar, during the academic years 2001-2006 he had been giving tutorials in various public law courses of the Department of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Dr Stratilatis also holds a MSc in Political Theory from the Department of Government of the LSE (2008, Distinction).
Before coming to the University of Nicosia in October 2012, Dr Stratilatis collaborated as a researcher with the Institute of Constitutional Researchers of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and with the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy (2006–2007). During the spring semester of 2010-2011, he taught Philosophy & Methodology of Law at the Department of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In parallel with his academic activities, Dr Stratilatis developed his professional capacities as a lawyer, being an associate in Kazantzidis, Koukoudis & Associates Law Firm in Thessaloniki (2006-2010), and a senior associate in Zepos & Yannopoulos Law Firm in Athens (2011-2012).
As an Assistant Professor at the University of Nicosia, Dr Stratilatis has been teaching various courses in the LLB and LLM programmes of the Department of Law as well as in the MA in Law and Politics in the EU programme of the School of Law (see the list of courses in Full CV). During academic years 2014-2017 he served as a Coordinator of the LLM programme, while since 2014 he has been a member of the PhD Committee of the Department of Law. He contributed to the organization of various conferences which were held at the University of Nicosia.
In 2015 Dr Stratilatis was a national expert for Greece in a research project on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which (project) was conducted by the Research Institute of International and European Law (IREDIES) of the University of Paris 1 (Panthéon – Sorbonne). Since 2015 he serves as a national expert for Cyprus for the needs of ‘Media Pluralism Monitor’, an EU funded project of the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom of the European University Institute at Florence, Italy.
Dr Stratilatis’ research interests lie in the areas of constitutional theory, constitutional law, human rights, political theory and jurisprudence. His publications (see the complete list in Full CV) include a monograph on the juridical and political theory of Immanuel Kant, and various journal articles and book chapters on media-related rights as well as on other topics falling within the aforementioned research areas. Dr Stratilatis has presented his work in various conferences, symposiums and academic seminars in Greece, Cyprus, and abroad.
