The Cyprus SPE Section/AAPG/SPE Student Chapter cordially invite you to the talk about the OptiColor project on Monday, 3 February, 2020 between 17:00 – 18:00 at the UNESCO Amphitheatre of the University of Nicosia. The talk will consist of two parts:
Part A: The Opticolor Project (Using Image Analysis to Select Optimal Safety Colors) & Part B: An introduction to the Offshore Construction Industry.
Abstract
The use of High-Visibility Safety Apparel (HVSA) is highly recommended or obligatory in situations where personnel is near moving vehicles or equipment. For example, HVSA vests, uniforms, coveralls, jackets, pants, hats, wrist bands, etc. render offshore personnel more conspicuous (visible) and reduces accident rates. The first part of the talk will present the Opticolor Project which developed a methodology for determining effective high-visibility colors using image analysis techniques. More specifically, the Opticolor Project advanced a generally applicable methodology for determining the optimal color for HVSA. The methodology uses worksite photographs and rudimentary image processing techniques to determine the predominant colors and evaluate their contrast in six HVSA colors. During the second part of the presentation, the speaker will briefly introduce attendees to the offshore industry and share his personal experiences on how to land a job at this international sector.
