The University of Nicosia (UNIC) would like to invite you to the interactive Virtual Info Session “Pharmacy 2030: Explore Your Future Role as a Pharmacist” on Tuesday, 16 July between 18:00-19:00 (GMT +3).  

The role of pharmacists as integral members of the primary healthcare team is increasingly recognised for its importance in enhancing patient care and improving health outcomes. Pharmacists bring a unique expertise in medication management, which is crucial for ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines. Their involvement in primary healthcare teams allows for more comprehensive patient care, as they can provide medication counseling, manage chronic diseases, and conduct health screenings. This collaborative approach helps to reduce medication errors, improve adherence to treatment plans, and ultimately lead to better health outcomes. 

In recent years, the role of pharmacists has expanded beyond traditional dispensing duties to include advanced services such as medication therapy management, immunisation administration, and health promotion interventions. These new roles enable pharmacists to take a more proactive approach in patient care, addressing public health issues and contributing to the prevention and management of diseases. For instance, pharmacists can now offer services such as smoking cessation programmes, diabetes management, and cardiovascular risk assessments, which are essential for managing chronic conditions and promoting overall health. 

Adapting these advanced roles in Europe can significantly enhance the healthcare system. By integrating pharmacists into primary healthcare teams, Europe can leverage their expertise to improve medication management and patient education. This can be particularly beneficial in rural and underserved areas where access to healthcare providers may be limited. Additionally, implementing advanced pharmacy services can help address public health challenges, such as increasing vaccination rates and managing chronic diseases more effectively. To achieve this, it is essential to provide pharmacists with the necessary training and support, as well as to establish regulatory frameworks that recognise and facilitate their expanded roles. By doing so, Europe can enhance its healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and ensure a more efficient and effective healthcare system. 

Based on the aforementioned, European prospective pharmacy students can significantly benefit from studying the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme at the University of Nicosia, as it is designed to prepare them for the evolving role and responsibilities outlined in the Pharmacy 2030 requirements announced by the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) and the 21 FIP Development Goals. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates advanced pharmaceutical sciences, clinical practice, and patient care, ensuring that students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to meet future healthcare challenges. By focusing on innovative teaching methods, research opportunities, and practical experiences, the University of Nicosia equips students with a strong foundation in evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and patient-centered care. This holistic approach not only aligns with the PGEU’s vision for the future of pharmacy but also addresses the FIP’s goals of improving global health through the advancement of pharmacy education, practice, and science. Consequently, graduates of the UNIC MPharm programme will be well-prepared to contribute to the healthcare system in Europe and beyond, fulfilling the demands of a rapidly changing profession and making a positive impact on public health.
