Integration of robotic systems to improve the efficiency of recycling

The Research Foundation of the University of Nicosia (UNRF) in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Green Dot organised a conference under the theme “Integration of robotic systems to improve the efficiency of recycling”. The conference was held on the 22nd of November 2022 at the premises of the University of Nicosia and members of the local government, as well as students and citizens who showed great interest in the topic of recycling and its development, attended.

At the beginning of the conference, the Commissioner of the Environment, Mrs. Klelia Vassiliou, addressed a greeting highlighting the integration of technology in the recycling systems. On his turn, Dr. Michalis Maniadakis from the Institute of Technology and Research (FORTH) informed the audience about the INTERREG programme “InterRecyle – Fast Sorting Robotic System for Promoting Interregional Recycling Activities in Greece and Cyprus”.

Dr. Alexandros Antonaras from the University of Nicosia then presented the results of the research which is in progress and is carried out by the UNRF, investigating the perceptions of citizens regarding recycling and the recycling systems of Cyprus and Greece. Finally, the General Manager of Green Dot, Mr. Marios Vrachimis, presented the role of the organisation, giving advice to the audience on how proper recycling can be achieved.

The conference concluded with a constructive discussion between the speakers and the audience, while the discussions continued at a reception that took place at the premises of the University.
