The Medical School is pleased to announce the launch of the Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran Prize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Starting from 2020, the prize will be offered on an annual basis following a donation by Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George’s, University of London and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

The prize will be €500, accompanied by a certificate of achievement and will be shared by the MBBS and the MD6 graduands who achieved the highest score in O&G examinations.

The selection process is as follows:

  • For MBBS, the graduand who achieved the highest score on the O&G items in the P Year YSKT examination at first attempt and passes F Year at first attempt will receive the award.
  • For MD6, the graduand who achieved the highest score in the O&G course examination in Year 5 at first attempt and passes Year 6 at first attempt will receive the award.
  • In case of a tie, student performance in relevant OSCE stations, scores on O&G items in the final year examinations and academic performance across the years will be considered. A final decision will be taken by the Awards Committee.
  • Both students should have a clear professionalism record.

 The prize will be awarded during the annual Graduation Ceremony
