Our Research Mission
We are committed to systematically foster original research in the basic, clinical, epidemiological, social and behavioural sciences with the aim to improve the health of the population. The Medical School espouses the holistic concept of One Health which emphasizes the relationship between the health of humans and animals within a healthy, sustainable environment.

Research Priority Areas
The Medical School espouses the holistic concept of One Health which emphasizes the relationship between the health of humans and animals within a healthy, sustainable environment and promotes the conduct of clinical, epidemiological, basic science and social science research. The Research Priorities are set by the Heads of Department and Heads of Research teams in association with the Medical School Research Committee. Multi-disciplinary and cross-departmental research is highly encouraged within the School and research projects are encouraged between more than one Research Priority Area and across the two Departments as well as in collaboration with the UNIC School of Veterinary Medicine and/or other Schools. Figure 1 provides an overview of the Research Priority Areas of the two Departments.
The Research Priority Areas of the Department of Basic and Clinical Sciences are as follows:
