Dr Gregory Neocleous
Dr Gregory Neocleous is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, Department of Social Sciences, Social Work Programme. He has extended knowledge and background in the area of ageing. He has designed programmes and services for older people while working in a senior citizen centre in the United States. His research interests include social policy for older people, social insurance with focus on retirement pensions, quality of life in nursing homes, housing and older people and substance abuse prevention and treatment.
He has published several journals and book chapters relevant to older people in Cyprus. He has carried out a study researching happiness in and out of nursing homes in Cyprus. He has facilitated for a duration of two years two groups of older people and trained them regarding their participation in an ICT project for the use of mobile devices to help them stay active through a virtual community. Among other social work courses, he teaches a course on social work and old age where he is providing information on all aspects of old age, including biological factors, social theories, and social work interventions. In addition, he has expressed an interest in human sexuality and social work education where he has carried out the first survey ever contacted in Cyprus in regards to this topic. He also designed and teaches the first course on human sexuality and social work in Cyprus. He is an active member of a social work bicommunal group aiming to promote social work values and principles across Cyprus through studies, seminars, conferences, and publications.
