The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) has recently been granted provisional membership of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).
The AAVMC is a prestigious organization that supports and advances veterinary medical education globally. Its membership consists of institutions that are committed to preparing the next generation of veterinary professionals. The Association provides its members with valuable tools, resources, and opportunities for engagement in its programmes, aiming to enhance the quality of veterinary education.
The AAVMC resources will provide key guidance to the School in its preparations for accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), when eligible to apply.
With its membership, the School will be able to participate in Association meetings and activities, eligible to serve on certain AAVMC committees, task forces, and working groups, and can attend AAVMC Assembly meetings. Further, the School will be included on the Veterinary Medical School Admission Requirements (VMSAR) website.
The Dean of the School, Professor Michael Herrtage stated ‘Joining the AAVMC as a Provisional Member is a testament to our commitment to excellence in veterinary education. We look forward to contributing to and benefiting from the Association’s resources and programmes’.
This development will strengthen the School’s position in the international veterinary education community and enrich the educational experiences of its students and faculty through enhanced collaboration, resources, and opportunities for professional development.
