Department of Politics and Governance
The economic, political and social issues surrounding Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean and the broader region, the European Union and the international arena are in a state of constant flux. Their understanding requires tools to be found in the social and political sciences, looking at the national, regional and international levels, especially their intersections but also the dynamics therein.
The research produced by the Department of Politics and Governance at the University of Nicosia aims to address the nature, causes and impact of socio-political and economic phenomena by focusing on specialised areas of academic inquiry, using a broad range of conceptual and methodological apparatuses, and adopting both disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approaches.
The Department has a senior-level faculty pool and the leading International Relations research team in Cyprus, while it has also established an international reputation on EU and Eastern Mediterranean studies. Its full range of expertise and activities include also Conflict and Negotiation, Political Economy, History, Comparative Politics, Diplomacy and Security, Public Administration and Governance.

Why Study Politics and Governance at UNIC
What our Students say
“My experience at UNIC was worthwhile from every point of view! I had the opportunity to study in an exciting field, which is now growing exponentially given international and European Union developments. Not only did I acquire the necessary knowledge to work in this field, I also received high-quality training in critical thinking, which has since allowed me to prepare a great deal of complex European research, innovation, and lifelong learning projects. I was fortunate to meet great people from around the globe, and be taught by brilliant professors, who were and still are with me, every step of the way. I had such a great experience back then, that I’ve come back “asking for more” – I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor in Law (LLB) at UNIC. As a bonus, I met my present business partner here.”
“Not only did I get to study a fascinating programme, but I was also able to develop my personal and social skills in the process. In addition, UNIC students benefit from brilliant professors and staff, willing to guide and help them at any given point and under any circumstance. I was also lucky enough to meet my, then, classmate, and subsequent business partner today!”
