A strong internet connection is often a divider between the digital haves and have-nots. Proctorio has long pursued the lowest bandwidth requirements possible so that using our service doesn’t entail living in the city or buying a new device every year. Less than 0.5% of the 25 million tests Proctorio administered in 2021 involved unsuccessful start attempts due to bandwidth. An analysis of our competitors found some would have struggled for 13 times the number of exams Proctorio successfully administered—one would have been incapable of connecting students to their tests over a million times.

Now, most would be satisfied with this level of success. But we weren’t—every unsuccessful start is a stressful event a student does not need. So, we’re happy to announce a breakthrough that brings our bandwidth requirements to a new industry low: 0.189Mbps. It also lightens the computer’s CPU load and reduces power usage while simultaneously bettering recording quality. This new update, in place since January, improves Proctorio’s performance by 54%. Hardware should not be a burden to personal or professional growth, and this dramatic change levels the playing field further.
