The Dean of the School of Law of the University of Nicosia was named as Representative of the Cyprus Academy to the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities

The Dean of the School of Law of the University of Nicosia, Prof. Achilles C. Emilianides, Secretary-General of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, was named the first representative of the Cyprus Academy to the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (All European Academies, ALLEA). The Cyprus Academy was accepted as a full member of ALLEA during the latter’s latest plenary session, which took place on 3.6.2020, in the presence of the President of the Cyprus Academy, Loucas Christoforou, and the Secretary-General of the Academy, Dean Emilianides.

The School of Law congratulates Dean Emilianides for being appointed as the first representative of the Academy to ALLEA, which re-confirms his academic excellence and international recognition. ALLEA is the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, representing more than 50 academies from over 40 European countries. Since its foundation in 1994, ALLEA speaks out on behalf of its members on the European and international stages, promotes science as a global public good, and facilitates scientific collaboration across borders and disciplines. Independent of political interests it further enables the collective voice of national Academies.

In the press release issued by ALLEA, upon acceptance of the Cyprus Academy, Dean Emilianides stated the following:

‘The Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts expresses its satisfaction for its acceptance as a full member of ALLEA. It is an honor and an opportunity for which we thank ALLEA and its Member Academies. Both the Cyprus Academy and ALLEA represent the Natural Sciences, the Humanities, and the Social Sciences and this makes the relationship between the Cyprus Academy and ALLEA a truly important one. We do hope that our collaboration in addressing interdisciplinary issues and in advancing new trans-disciplinary initiatives will be mutually beneficial’.
