The Scholars
Abrahim Adewunmi, USA
“I am proud to be among the first recipients of the Coinbase scholarship, which is a unique flagship programme issued to five students. The fact that I have the opportunity to acquire an MSc from the leading university in blockchain technology, UNIC, and receive a scholarship from a top exchange like Coinbase speaks to the volume and growth of the crypto ecosystem. I am truly enjoying my time at UNIC, and I look forward to learning more, interacting with my professors and students. I am also blessed to have an industry expert as my Coinbase mentor. We have discussed growth areas, Coinbase venture acquisitions strategies, and the essential qualities of a successful business/founder. I hope to pay it forward by helping investors build wealth through cryptocurrency as a crypto investment coach”.
Aishwarya Aiyar, Canada
“I chose the MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency at the University of Nicosia because the leading industry experts in the crypto sphere seem to all be professors at this university! I have researched far and wide and have not been able to find such a breadth of subjects being taught by leading industry experts in a university setting. Having an industry leader like Coinbase offering me a scholarship gives me the edge over others in my industry. I’m incredibly grateful to Coinbase for allowing crypto professionals such as myself an opportunity to advance in our careers by broadening our horizons with scholarships such as these”.
Stella Friaisse, France
“I was recommended for the MSc programme by a friend of mine. After researching it, I saw that the University of Nicosia was one of the few universities in the world to offer a degree exclusively dedicated to this field. I instantly fell in love with its rich curriculum covering key aspects of blockchain. My mind was blown by the different elective courses dealing with key topics, but also by the impressive background of the lecturers. Being granted the Coinbase scholarship is an honor, I feel very grateful for it. It is an opportunity for me to be part of a massive change worldwide and to be an ambassador for other black women who want to perform in finance and tech”.
Stephan Johnson, USA
“I chose to apply to the University of Nicosia because I would have the opportunity to engage with an expansive network of blockchain enthusiasts, between the leading fintech practitioners, student population, and broader UNIC community. I was especially fascinated with the faculty — including experts like Andreas Antonopoulos — who have the ability to simplify the complexity of blockchain with grace. I was excited and appreciative when I learned of my selection for the Coinbase scholarship. The scholarship allows me to direct my focus on a primary goal of the Master’s programme: learning. I will apply my learning to my personal mission of increasing the availability and accessibility of financial services”.
Jhanina Santiago, USA
“I want to be part of this FinTech revolution and help shape the new emerging digital economy. I chose the MSc programme because of the key classes that the curriculum provides, the networking opportunity with colleagues from all around the world, and the years of experience UNIC has teaching the curriculum. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I placed my cybersecurity career on hold and I found comfort in cryptocurrency trading and researching up-and coming projects. I realized then that I had to upgrade my education to match the wave of change that blockchain is bringing. The Coinbase scholarship provides me a tremendous opportunity and I am very grateful. Now I can add knowledge and new skills to my tool kit and embark on a new journey”.
