UNIC School of Law students excelled at the 2019 Rome Model United Nations (MUN), securing two highly competitive awards
The School of Law at the University of Nicosia (UNIC) extends its warmest congratulations to Myrto Kourouni (Department of Law), who won the Best Delegation Award (representing the USA) in the Security Council, as well as David Kapanadze (Department of Politics and Governance) for the Honourable Mention Award (representing France), also in the Security Council. Their performance was of the highest standard, resulting in the above two awards in the most competitive committee.
The School also congratulates the following students: Stefan Jovanovic (Department of Politics and Governance), Maria Lubbat and Panagiotis Mamuneas (Department of Law), for their very successful participation in the competition.
The Rome MUN is Europe’s largest diplomatic simulation of the United Nations. This year’s competition was fierce, with over 600 delegates, which highlights the success of UNIC students. Model UN’s are programmes geared towards teaching students the work of the United Nations. Participants act as delegates of the UN Member States and they replicate the debates and discussions held within UN committees, following UN procedures, rules and norms. The goal of this experience-based programme is to develop their debating skills and to find common and effective solutions on the agenda topics through the approval and signing of resolutions.
The participating students were coached by Marinos Papaioakeim, Project Coordinator at the Diplomatic Academy, under the supervision of Dr Constantinos Adamides, Assistant Professor of International Relations and Director of the Diplomatic Academy at the University of Nicosia.
