UNIC Student Stephanie Nicolaou Appointed FISU Student Ambassador
The University of Nicosia is proud to announce that Stephanie Nicolaou, a third-year Pharmacy student and champion swimmer, has been appointed as a Student Ambassador for the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU). This prestigious appointment follows her nomination to FISU by the Cyprus University Sports Federation.
As a FISU Student Ambassador, Stephanie will collaborate with the Cyprus University Sports Federation (CUSF) to develop and implement action plans aimed at enhancing university sports. Her role includes advocating for the importance of university sports as a means to promote peace, cohesion, and unity, as well as encouraging student involvement in sports and volunteering activities. Additionally, she will work to promote gender equality and tolerance.
The FISU Student Ambassador programme, initiated five years ago, selects students from each member country to work with their National University Sports Federation. The Cyprus University Sports Federation has established transparent criteria for selecting Student Ambassadors, which include athletic activity, English proficiency, personality, communication skills, student status, maturity, and consistency.
Candidates undergo training through FISU seminars, and upon successful completion, they are appointed as Student Ambassadors for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal. Stephanie’s appointment reflects her dedication and success in both academics and athletics, as she has successfully represented UNIC in the Cyprus University Swimming Championship.
Stephanie’s dual career as a student and athlete exemplifies the values of the FISU Student Ambassador programme, and the UNIC community is confident she will make significant contributions to the promotion of university sports in Cyprus.
