University of Nicosia becomes a CEPOL Framework Partner

Joining a Select Network Tasked with Implementing the European Union Agency’s Law Enforcement Training and Learning Portfolio

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is pleased to announce it has entered a four-year Framework Partnership Agreement with CEPOL, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training and Learning. This follows an associated Evaluation Report, according to which UNIC achieved an impressive 44/50 points.

UNIC thus becomes the first university in Cyprus and among only a handful in the EU to become a CEPOL Framework Partner, tasked with implementing CEPOL’s training portfolio over the next four years (2021-2024).

This entails training leaders, future leaders, and trainers of Law Enforcement Agencies of the Member States of the EU (and, to some extent, of third countries), on behalf of CEPOL. Training will focus on issues stemming from EU priorities in the field of security; in particular, from the EU Policy Cycle on serious and organised crime.

More generally, CEPOL brings together a network of training institutes for law enforcement officials in EU Member States and supports them in providing frontline training on security priorities, law enforcement cooperation, and information exchange. CEPOL also works with EU bodies, international organisations, and third countries, to ensure that the most serious security threats are tackled with a collective response.

UNIC’s Framework Partnership with CEPOL will be supported and coordinated by the University’s Institute of Public, Cyber and National Security (IPCNS), the founder and Executive Director of which is the former Chief of Cyprus Police, Zacharias Chrysostomou.
