University of Nicosia Signs MoU with Pontem Analytics
The Department of Engineering will collaborate in research and student placements with Pontem Analytics
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed this week between the Department of Engineering of the University of Nicosia (UNIC) and Pontem Analytics, committing both parties to closer collaboration in the broad area of Geo-Scientific research and data analytics.
Pontem Analytics is an international leading consulting and investment company known for its expertise in data analytics and domain knowledge. Pontem Analytics has over 10 years of experience delivering design and operations consulting solutions including process optimization, flow assurance and production chemistry services to major projects in the Eastern Mediterranean region and hopes to leverage this experience to deliver additional value in the future. The signed MoU signifies the shared vision and the mutual desire for collaboration between UNIC and Pontem Analytics and in the realms of engineering and data analytics, with a specific focus on energy and the Eastern Mediterranean oil and gas industry.
The agreement between the two parties underscores their common interest in the field of earth sciences, simulations and data analytics fueling innovation and knowledge sharing, underpinned by key initiatives but also reflecting their commitment to cooperate on a range of issues in this field. The MoU includes, among others the collaborative effort, deeply rooted in data science and oil and gas engineering, expanding horizons for students, faculty, and industry professionals.
The agreement was signed during a meeting that took place at the UNIC premises with the participation of faculty members from the Oil and Gas Engineering program, the co-founder of Pontem Analytics, Tommy Golczynski, and the Cyprus representative, Kostas Poursanides. A discussion focused on the expertise and research interests of the faculty of Engineering highlighting the benefits from the collaboration for both Pontem Analytics and the academic community, including the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The MoU was signed by Dr Stelios Neophytou, Head of the Department of Engineering at the University of Nicosia, and by Tommy Golczynski, co-founder of Pontem Analytics.
Commenting on the development, Dr Neophytou said: “We are very pleased to begin the official collaboration with Pontem Analytics in the field of earth sciences, simulations and data analytics. We are looking forward to working together, exchanging expertise and investigating possibilities to expand our research potential. I am sure that both parties will take full advantage of this agreement in order to provide added value to their activities”. On his part, Mr Tommy Golczynski thanked UNIC and the Department of Engineering for their cooperation. We believe that by combining our industry expertise with the academic rigor of UNIC, we will create new opportunities for students and make meaningful contributions to the energy sector”.
