Manos Vlasiou
Manos C. Vlasiou is the Head of Department of Veterinary Medicine, Programme Coordinator and an Assistant Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nicosia.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cyprus, where his research focused on the synthesis and characterization of biological, redox-active complexes of vanadium. With a strong background in Food Science and a BSc Hons from the Technological University of Cyprus, Dr Vlasiou brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his teaching and research roles.
Dr Vlasiou has held various academic and research positions, including as a Special Research Scientist at the University of Cyprus, Department of Chemistry and a Lecturer in the Department of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Nicosia. His research interests include the development of novel chelate materials for uranium sequestration, biomimetic radical chemistry, the synthesis of vanadium complexes with potential anticancer and antidiabetic properties, computer-aided drug discovery for cancer and vet informatics.
In addition to his research, Dr Vlasiou is committed to teaching and mentoring students. He teaches courses in biochemistry, animal nutrition, and food science, and has supervised numerous undergraduate and graduate dissertations. He is actively involved in university service as a Senate Member, Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, and member of various committees.
