Profile of the Programme
The general purpose of the program is twofold. Firstly, to help the student gain deep knowledge in the field of specialty via (a) attending education courses at an advanced level, (b) studying relevant literature, and (c) interacting with faculty members and the rest of the students. Secondly, the program aims to develop research skills through (a) attending special quantitative and qualitative research courses, (b) undertaking small-scale research during the various courses or/and undertaking master’s thesis, (c) participating in research seminars/conferences. In general, the overall purpose of the program is to aid the student become a critical thinker and educator.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates of the programme can be accepted into Third Cycle degrees (Doctoral Degree).
The minimum general requirement for admission to the post-graduate degree programme is a Bachelor Degree from a recognised university.
In addition to the above, applicants must also satisfy the following requirements:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Certified Copy of Degree.
- Certified Copy of Transcript.
- Statement of Personal Goals and Research Interests (approximately 2 pages) – A letter stating the candidate’s individual abilities and capabilities, his/her resume, as well as his/her expectations from the programme and the way in which it will help him/her in his/her personal and career development.
Courses include lectures, assignments, teleconferences and the final exam at the end of each semester. There is a continuous assessment with a weight of about 40%. For this assessment, assignments, individual or/and group presentation and mid-term examination may be carried out on a selective basis. There is also a final assessment with a weighting factor of about 60%. The student is informed about his performance in each course. The grades of the individual courses are offset and, based on a special logarithm, the weighted average of the semester and the cumulative weighted average for the whole studies are calculated.
The student must complete 90 ECTS as well as all the requirements of the programme.
Courses must be completed in the correct ratio of required and elective, amounting to 90 ECTS.
A minimum CPA of 2.0 is also required for the whole studies.
The student must successfully complete:
- Two courses of Research and Evaluation (20 ECTS)
- Two courses from the Theoretical Principles in Education (20 ECTS)
- Two required major courses (20 ECTS) and three elective major courses (30ECTS) (Total of 50 ECTS)
*In case the master’s Thesis (30 ECTS) is selected, then the student is exempted from 1 course of theoretical foundations in education (10 ECTS) and 2 elective major courses (20 ECTS).
Upon successful completion of this program, the students should be able to:
- To delve into the basic literature of their concentration.
- To understand basic concepts, principles and models of their chosen concentration and to transfer that knowledge in the school context.
- To critically examine research results in the concentration and their implications as regards the problems faced by the school and the education system.
- To identify problems at school and system level and design research to solve them.
- To critically analyze educational problems examining their sociological, psychological and philosophical dimensions and design action to solve them.
- To take on leadership roles related to their concentration, focusing on the improvement of current practices or the introduction of new procedures.
- To contribute in the modernisation of practices implemented in their concentration, e.g. Music Education.
- To implement skills gained to face everyday problems, e.g. student/system/program evaluation, decision planning and making, communication with internal and external audiences, mentoring, training and development.
- To utilise human resources during the introduction of innovation and new practices and procedures.
- To act as agents of change and innovation and support attempts for improvement
